New sails for classic yacht Zillaine
Zillaine has recently had a full suit of sails designed and cut by Ratsey and Lapthorn of Cowes, Isle of Wight. It was not too hard to find the original sail maker - tucked away in the forepeak was an unused storm sail, made by Ratsey in 1961! said owner / skipper Peter Riches.
Following a quick call and a few emails to Mark Ratsey the original sail plan was found in the Ratsey and Lapthorn archive - and further discussions with Andy Cassell who now heads the historic sail making company it was soon agreed there could be no other sail maker to help with the restoration of this classic yacht designed and built by Camper and Nicholsons in Gosport in 1961.
Zillaine now has a new main, mizzen, genoa and No 3 jib. A cruising suit will follow next season.
